The Cattlemen's
Thirteen days of aged-event cutting at the Young County Arena in Graham, Texas.
Produced by cutters, for the cutters.
Thirteen days
of cutting.
Started in Graham in 2010 and carried on in 2027 by RL Chartier and Clay Johnson, two cutters who show here themselves.
Two age groups, eight divisions, and thirteen days of fresh cattle. The Derby for 4 Year Olds and the Classic for 5/6 Year Olds, with $150,000 added.
Held at the Young County Arena — an hour and forty-five minutes west of Fort Worth in the cattle country of Graham, Texas — the show brings the aged-event circuit's best 4 Year Olds and 5/6 Year Olds together for two weeks every March.
The producers' stated goal for 2027: more added money, great prizes, and fun events throughout the show. The Derby (4 Year Olds) and the Classic (5/6 Year Olds) run side by side, with the Open finals on the first weekend and the Non Pro and Amateur finals building through the second week.
Practice pens open at 6 AM. Admission is free.
$150,000+
Added across eight divisions. 100% of every jackpot is paid in the finals, and every finalist receives a check.

What is
cutting?
Cutting is a judged Western discipline that comes from ranch work. Horse and rider ride into a herd of cattle, separate one cow, and drive it to the middle of the pen. Then the rider drops the rein hand and the horse takes over.
For two and a half minutes the horse works on its own — reading the cow, mirroring every move, dropping low and sliding side to side to keep it from returning to the herd. The judges score every cow worked. The best runs look effortless. They aren't.
